The releasers for life rafts are made of fiberglass reinforced with nylon, to prevent corrosion of the material and are activated with water pressure to a maximum depth of 4 meters.
They are composed of a double stranded white cable, a releasing mechanism and a red fusible wire with a breaking voltage of 2,2 ± 0,4 kN. The white cable is fixed to the deck or to the cradle of the raft and secured to the fastening strap with a Davit. When activated, the knife cuts the cable, allowing the free floatation of the raft. While the boat sinks, the floating rope is stretched until the raft inflation.
It does not require annual inspection, maintenance, and spare parts, but it has to be replaced every 2 years.
